With the advancement of national modernization, urban construction is accelerating rapidly. Open-cut construction deteriorates road conditions, damages the environment, and causes significant inconvenience to people’s daily lives and work, leading to continuously rising construction costs. To resolve the conflict between existing municipal facilities and construction activities, a new construction technology—trenchless technology—has emerged.
Trenchless technology refers to the use of geotechnical drilling and excavation techniques to lay, repair, and replace pipelines without open-cutting, or with only minimal excavation of working pits. It offers high efficiency, high quality, moderate costs, and environmental friendliness, with advantages such as no traffic disruption and no environmental pollution. In many cases, it features shorter construction cycles, lower overall costs, and better safety compared to open-cut methods. It has now become a primary method for urban municipal construction, widely applied in laying pipelines for gas, electricity, telecommunications, cable TV, oil, natural gas, heating, drainage, and more, under conditions where open-cutting is not permitted or feasible—such as crossing highways, railways, buildings, and rivers, as well as in busy urban areas, heritage protection zones, and crop and vegetation protection zones.
