Tanzania Dar es Salaam Sewage Renovation and Outfall Pipeline Project

Year of Construction: 2005 Application Field: Tail water drainage Pipe Specifications: DN1000/SN15000/PN6 Pipe Quantity: 1023 m Construction Method: Above-ground installation

This project is located in Dar es Salaam, the capital of Tanzania in East Africa. Since the outfall pipeline will be laid on exposed shallow seabeds, it will be subjected to prolonged exposure to intense ultraviolet radiation and seawater immersion. With a design service life of 50 years, traditional metal pipes, concrete pipes, and thermoplastic pipes cannot meet these requirements. In contrast, centrifugally cast fiberglass-reinforced plastic (GRP) pipes with sand core are manufactured from thermosetting resins and offer excellent corrosion resistance. They can be used long-term in environments containing acids, alkalis, salts, seawater, untreated sewage, corrosive soils, or under highly corrosive conditions without requiring any anti-corrosion treatment, with a service life exceeding 50 years. Additionally, to enhance the pipes’ UV resistance, the resin used for the outer surface layer has been replaced with a specialized heat-resistant and UV-resistant resin. After conducting a technical and economic comparison, the client selected centrifugally cast GRP pipes.
