The Supporting Projects for the World Expo Shanghai Bund Reconstruction Project

Year of Construction: 2008 Application Field: Sewer and rain drainage Pipe Specifications: DN400-DN1800/SN10000/PN1 Pipe Quantity: 2753 m Construction Method: Direct Bury

With the 2010 Shanghai World Expo approaching, the Bund Road Reconstruction Project and the Xietu East Road–Guohuo Road Reconstruction Project, as supporting projects for the Expo, were designated as key municipal engineering projects in Shanghai in 2008. Our company’s centrifugally cast glass-reinforced plastic pipes (CCGRP pipes) were used for some of the piping.

Construction on the Xietu East Road–Guohuo Road project began in December 2008. As a supporting project for the Expo, it imposed stringent requirements on the piping materials. Thanks to the advantages of the centrifugal casting process, CCGRP pipes were recognized for their high density, corrosion resistance, lightweight yet high strength, smooth inner walls, excellent sealing properties, and ease of installation, leading to the selection of DN1600 and DN1800 specifications.

The Bund project is located on Zhongshan East 1st Road, known as the “Wall Street of the East” (adjacent to the Huangpu River and facing Lujiazui across the river), and utilized DN400, DN600, DN800, and DN1000 specifications. Construction began in February 2009. Due to the project’s location in a central area with heavy traffic and high foot traffic, construction conditions were challenging and required rapid progress; the project was successfully completed in May 2009.
