Shanghai Qingcaosha Raw Water Diversion Project (Lingqiao Branch)

The Shanghai Qingcaosha Lingqiao Branch Project is a key component of the onshore water conveyance system for the Qingcaosha Water Source Raw Water Project. Due to the high difficulty of preliminary demolition work in the QLZ-C3 section between work shafts J26 and J29, and to avoid the piles of the Gaoqiao Port terminal, work shafts J27 and J28 had to be omitted, necessitating a direct curved pipe jacking from J26 to J29. The total length of the pipe jacking section was 791 meters, comprising a 125-meter straight section and a 666-meter curved section with a curvature radius of R=1200m. The pipeline consisted of DN2000/SN50000/PN10/8000KN centrifugally cast fiberglass-reinforced plastic (GRP) jacking pipes, installed using a large-cutterhead earth pressure balance (EPB) jacking machine. Once construction began, the 791-meter section was driven in a single continuous push and successfully completed in one go.

At the time, this project set several domestic records for GRP pipes: First, it was the project with the longest single-section drive distance (791 meters), exceeding the previous record of 315 meters (for a DN2000 centrifugally cast GRP pipe) by 376 meters. Second, it was the first project to use large-diameter GRP pipes for curved pipe jacking. Third, to date, no other actual engineering project has utilized GRP pipes with an internal pressure of 1.0 MPa for pipe jacking.
